Set in a beautiful Tuscan villa on the historic Garavicchio estate, Write at Garavicchio is a week-long course for writers at all stages who are interested in creative non-fiction: autobiography, biography, memoir, travel, history, food, landscape, nature and more.
We started Write at Garavicchio because we felt there was a need for a residential course at which writers and would-be writers could focus on their writing without the white noise of everyday life, and at the same time learn from published writers how to take their writing and their voice to a new level of ambition. In the 5 years we have been running the course, we’ve seen exactly that happen as our writer guests have gained hugely in experience, technique and confidence.
At Write at Garavicchio 2026 you’ll find a fresh perspective on your work, gain new insights into how and why you write, and develop new skills and techniques. The course’s workshops and personal interactions with the tutors, all experienced teachers and successful published writers, will transform your ideas of what you can achieve creatively.
Our all-inclusive week (7 days, 8 nights) at Garavicchio, nestled between 12th-century Capalbio and the Tyrrhenian Sea and only an hour and a half from Rome, is led by acclaimed writer Julian Evans, the award-winning Miranda France, and the much-celebrated Guardian food writer Rachel Roddy. It’s a perfect opportunity to get started on a new project, to bring fresh thoughts to an existing piece of work, or to experiment in a distraction-free space.
Staying in the delightful airy comfort of Garavicchio, you’ll work, eat (think fabulous fresh Tuscan cooking) and relax at the villa of the Italian writer Marella Caracciolo Chia, author of the much-praised biographical study The Light in Between. The beach is only 5 kilometres away, and 5 minutes’ walk away is the visionary, magical Tarot Garden of Niki de Saint Phalle, the Giardino dei Tarocchi.
